Promoting Web Sites

When it comes to web space you have two options - free or paid. The paid version is the best way to go in most cases - especially if you're trying to make money online.

It's easy to get confused when building your first web site. If you're just starting out you may not even know where you can get web space to host your site. You'll soon discover that there are some free ones out there, and some that are going to cost you some money.

You'll also find there are domain name options, storage space, and many other things. When you don’t know what you're doing, this can all be very confusing.

If you're planning to build a personal site then you can always just get free web space. This is something that a lot of people do, and then they buy a domain name to go with it. A domain name is your web address - for example: www.web-wide-income.com is this website's domain name or address.

You can purchase any domain name you like, as long as it's available. There are new endings out there now, so if something you want does not come up as a .com, you can always use one of the others like .net, .info or .tv.

You'll find that some free web hosting providers won't allow you to use your own domain name. If this is the case, you'll have to take the name that they give you, it's considered a subdomain.

When you get free web space, you're going to have to put up with ads on your pages. You'll have no control over which ads show up and you can't remove them - it's how the web hosting company is able to provide you with free web space.

When you decide to upgrade your service to a paid account, those ads will disappear. Although most of the free web hosts will have ads, there are a few out there that don’t. They're very hard to find though, and they may not remain that way for very much longer. The idea of free web space without ads is a fine one, but it's not very feasible for long.

If you plan to have a large site with lots of pictures, you'll need to have enough web space to handle all of that information. That is when storage space comes into play. And whenever someone comes to your website, those images and graphics that you have are going to have to be transferred to your visitor, and that uses bandwidth.

If you have a lot of visitors and very little bandwidth, your website will become unavailable. If that happens, you may have to pay for more bandwidth so you don’t have to worry about your site going down.

The main thing to remember is this - If you're planning on having a website to make money, then you need to buy your own domain name and pay for web space. Free web space just doesn't give you any control or room to grow.
