Are you a writer or a photographer? If so, then you're probably always on the lookout for freelance opportunities. Though there are some staff jobs for writers and photographers with magazines and other media outlets, many who are in these professions still rely on freelance jobs to pay the bills. Sometimes this is a blessing, and other times it is downright scary. How easy or how hard it is to make ends meet really depends on where you are in your career. Fortunately, it is much easier to find freelance opportunities than it used to be. It's hard to imagine what it was like to look for these opportunities ten or twenty years ago. Writers and photographers found themselves having to contact companies over and over again to ask about freelance opportunities. Once they got their careers established, the opportunities probably came to them. However, starting out must have been an extreme challenge. Those starting out nowadays have the wonderful advantage of the Internet. You can find so many freelance opportunities online. And it may not even take you very long to find your first one. If you have good search skills, you can probably find more freelance opportunities than you can handle. The trick is to start small and build your way up. Though you may think some of your first jobs are beneath your dignity, you may soon find that these jobs are the first steps on your way to bigger and better freelance opportunities. Everyone has to start somewhere - the important thing is to get started. Once you learn how to take advantage of the freelance opportunities you find online, your career will begin to pick up momentum. As long as you do quality work, are easy to deal with, and meet all of your deadlines, you'll find that the freelance opportunities begin to come to you. I started my writing career very small, as most writers do, and I had to search out each and every single job I had. Now that I've been working for a few years the opportunities are starting to come to me. And if the freelance opportunities ever stop coming in, I won't have to worry - I have plenty of experience in finding them myself. So I know I won’t be without work for very long. After you've gotten your feet wet you won’t have that far to go before you are swimming along nicely.
